Staples and Party City announced Tuesday a strategic partnership bringing Party City inside more than 700 Staples locations nationwide and on Staples.com, with plans to expand to additional stores by the end of 2026. The collaboration brings Party City’s selection of balloons, décor and party supplies together with Staples same-day print and marketing services. Customers can shop party décor, tableware, gift bags, costume accessories and favors, while also creating personalized invitations, banners, yard signs and posters through Staples' print services. In the coming weeks, customers will also be able to schedule balloon pickups in advance through Staples.com and the Staples app.
Total Retail's Take: Party City is working towards a comeback by expanding its physical footprint through a partnership with Staples. Ad Populum, the current owner of Party City, acquired the company out of its second bankruptcy in 2025, with plans to transform and rebuild the iconic party brand. Party City currently operates around 30 franchise locations across the U.S. and its online store. At its peak, the retailer operated just over 800 stores nationwide. The store-within-a-store launch in more than 700 Staples stores gives Party City nearly the same reach without the risk or cost of operating its own storefronts.
"As we take the new Party City to more places than ever before, finding the right partners is essential. Staples stood out immediately," said Joel Weinshanker, CEO of Ad Populum.
As for Staples, it gains a new driver of foot traffic to its stores. "By bringing Party City into Staples stores, we’re expanding what customers can accomplish in one place — combining helium balloons and party supplies with our print and marketing services to offer a complete solution for celebrations," said Marshall Warkentin, president, Staples U.S. Retail in a press release. Staples is continuing to build out its partnerships as it expands beyond traditional office supplies. Its portfolio of services also includes returns collection in stores for Amazon, UPS, Happy Returns and more, as well as a pilot program that launched eye care clinics in select Philadelphia area stores with Stanton Optical.
