Amazon.com is hosting a second Prime Day-like sales bonanza in October, the company announced Tuesday, seeking to attract consumers planning to start their holiday shopping early, reports CNBC. The company didn’t share exact dates for the event, called “Prime Big Deal Days,” but said it will be held in 19 countries.
Amazon just wrapped up its Prime Day event in July, which it touted as its “biggest ever,” reportedly selling 375 million items worldwide in 48 hours. The event boosted U.S. online sales 6.1 percent, resulting in $12.7 billion in revenue, according Adobe Analytics. Last year, Amazon launched a second shopping event exclusive to Prime members for the first time. Dubbed the Prime Early Access Sale by Amazon, the two-day global sale saw mixed success.
Total Retail's Take: Prime Big Deal Days is set up to be a sequel to the retailer's first pre-holiday Prime event held last October, returning under a different name. No details have been shared yet to indicate how this year's event may be different, but Amazon is betting that two sales events per year will bring increased sales and a boost in Prime membership. Retailers that sell on Amazon and beyond may benefit from this push to get consumers' holiday shopping started early, as the industry braces for uncertain spending levels this year.
