Spirit Christmas Expands its Store Count to 44
Spirit Christmas is expanding this year, giving consumers even more places to shop for seasonal decor. The retail chain is the holiday-focused offshoot of Spirit Halloween, bringing seasonal decorations and festive finds for a range of different budgets. Now in its third season, Spirit Halloween is set to have 44 locations across 15 states this season, transforming 39 of its Halloween stores into holiday destinations. The stores are intended to be a one-stop destination for all things Christmas, stocked with everything from holiday décor to inflatables, animatronics, gifts, apparel, stocking stuffers, and exclusive seasonal merchandise.
Total Retail's Take: This news is the latest example of the growing appeal of seasonal and pop-up retail as a flexible alternative to traditional brick-and-mortar expansion. By converting 39 existing Spirit Halloween locations into Christmas-themed stores, Spencer Gifts, parent organization of the two retail chains, can extend the revenue-generating potential of its temporary real estate, leverage existing landlord relationships, and capitalize on another period of concentrated consumer demand without committing to year-round leases. Furthermore, seasonal retailers can differentiate themselves through experiential shopping, offering interactive displays, exclusive merchandise, and festive environments that give consumers reasons to visit physical stores. For Spencer's Gifts, the opportunity is to build on the brand recognition and operational expertise established by Spirit Halloween.
Pop-ups such as Spirit Christmas offer retailers an opportunity to test new markets, introduce products, generate brand awareness, and capture demand around holidays, sporting events, entertainment releases, and other cultural moments without the financial commitment of a permanent location. They can also help shopping center owners monetize vacant storefronts, generate foot traffic, and create a more dynamic tenant mix. Expect to see more of these pop-up store concepts in the near future.
