Bed Bath & Beyond Taps Executive Chairman Marcus Lemonis as CEO
Bed Bath & Beyond on Monday named Executive Chairman Marcus Lemonis as its new chief executive, reports Fox Business. He stepped down as CEO of Camping World on Jan. 1, 2026, after more than two decades at the helm. Lemonis has been involved with Bed Bath & Beyond since 2023, serving as executive chairman after the brand's acquisition by Overstock, which later rebranded as Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. The company owns Bed Bath & Beyond, Overstock, buybuy Baby, and Kirkland’s Home, as well as other related brands and websites and a blockchain asset portfolio inclusive of tZERO, GrainChain and other assets.
In a letter to shareholders on Monday, Lemonis, who will continue serving as executive chairman, outlined plans to help Bed Bath & Beyond cut costs and pursue expansion opportunities, including acquisitions. He introduced a three-part strategy to transform the company into an “Everything Home Company” that is “built around customers and the way life happens.”
Total Retail's Take: Bed Bath & Beyond believes Lemonis can take the company into its next phase of rebuild following its bankruptcy filing in 2023. According to his letter, the home good retailer has built a solid foundation over the last seven quarters and plans to continue growth through more acquisitions. "We will pursue acquisitions and investments where we see category gaps, consumer services, business synergies, or natural brand extensions through the next 12 months," said Lemonis.
He shared that Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. is currently working several opportunities that fit into three pillars: omnichannel retail and commerce; digital, financial, insurance and blockchain services; and beyond home, which includes an artificial intelligence-powered home operating system. Lemonis emphasized in the letter that Bed Bath & Beyond's journey is "not a turnaround story. It is a rebuild into something structurally better."
The CEO role of the growing conglomerate had remained unfilled since the departure of CEO Jonathan Johnson in November 2023.
