Genesco's LIDS Sports Group, a merchandiser of sports-related headgear and novelties, has purchased Dayton, Ohio-based Cardboard Heroes, which has 19 retail locations in Ohio and Kentucky. Those include four Buckeye Room stores that sell Ohio State University sports merchandise. The purchase also includes the websites cheroes.com and buckeyeroom.com, where the same goods are available online. Terms of the deal weren't disclosed. LIDS Sports Group, based in Indianapolis, already had 936 headwear specialty retail stores, 151 sports fan retail stores and 57 team-specific professional sports and university athletics retail stores in North America.

According to the list, the value of the Walmart brand is estimated at $139.19 billion, down 2 percent from last year but still well ahead of No. 2 Target, with an estimated brand of $23.44 billion, up 1 percent year-over-year. Mega-retailer Walmart has retained its No. 1 position on U.S. Most Valuable Retail Brands list for 2012 from golbal branding consultancy Interbrand. The report ranks the top 50 U.S. retail brands by brand value, in addition the top retail brands from the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, and the Asia Pacific. York, Pa. -- As part of a real estate realignment strategy, The Bon-Ton Stores Inc. on Tuesday said it will close two of its department stores, one in Pennsylvania and the other in Ohio, when their leases expire in early 2012. The company said it plans to close its store in the West Manchester Mall in York, Pa., in January, and its Elder-Beerman store in the Northwest Mall in Dayton, Ohio, which will shut down in February. Petco has purchased Complete Petmart, a 29-store chain based in Dayton, Ohio. Financial terms of the purchase weren't disclosed. San Diego-based Petco said all of Complete Petmart's 230 employees will remain with the company. Petco said it will be making changes to the former Complete Petmart store layouts over the next few weeks.
