Patrick's

Would you wear a baseball hat with an image of a man getting sick on the pavement? That's what Urban Outfitters has put on a baseball cap it launched in the United States for St. Patrick's Day. The green and white hat has a man on the front on his hands and knees getting sick. The slogan below reads, ''Irish Yoga'' and ''downward facing upchuck."

Consumers are smarter than ever and utilize Google to hunt for sales and promotions, especially around holidays. Whether it’s Valentine’s Day or Presidents Day (both of which were wildly successful this year), shoppers are now trained to search for deals around these dates. St. Patrick's Day is right around the corner, and looking at historical search volume, queries for ‘St. Patrick’s Day sale’ terms were up 92 percent from ’09 to ’10, and three weeks out from the big day, advertisers are already advertising on holiday sale terms.

With an estimated 122 million Americans planning to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day this year, there will be no shortage of parties or celebrations. According to the National Retail Federation’s 2011 St. Patrick’s Day Consumer Intentions and Actions survey, conducted by BIGresearch, 52.4 percent of Americans will celebrate the Irish holiday, up from 45.2 percent last year and the most in the survey’s eight year history.
