Last Wednesday, eBay unveiled "The New eBay," a completely redesigned website that is slowly being rolled out to all users, and released same-day delivery service eBay Now in San Francisco. We got the chance to talk about product vision with President Devin Wenig and Chief Technology Officer Mark Carges.

eBay is trying to bring the pleasure back to online shopping with "Feed," a curated list of items that the e-commerce giant calculates might interest you. The idea behind Feed, which was announced at an event in New York on Wednesday and has a decidedly Pinterest-like aesthetic, is to combine the ease of online purchasing with the fun of window shopping, said eBay Chief Technology Officer Mark Carges, noting it moves the e-commerce browsing experience beyond a search-based one.

eBay has acquired Hunch, an online platform launched in 2009, that delivers customized recommendations to its users based on their individual tastes. Hunch's patented prediction technology — also known as a "taste graph" — uses signals from around the Web to map members with their predicted affinity for products, services, other people, websites, or just about anything, and customizes recommended topics for them. Hunch's technology talent and its deep expertise in areas like machine learning, data mining and predictive modeling are expected to help eBay expand and grow merchandising and relevance capabilities to further improve the shopping and selling

eBay acquired Critical Path Software, a mobile application developer that helped eBay deliver mobile apps including eBay for iPhone and StubHub, eBay Classifieds, and Shopping.com iPhone applications.
