Other CityTargets opened in the Westwood section of Los Angeles and in Seattle. York, Pa. -- As part of a real estate realignment strategy, The Bon-Ton Stores Inc. on Tuesday said it will close two of its department stores, one in Pennsylvania and the other in Ohio, when their leases expire in early 2012. The company said it plans to close its store in the West Manchester Mall in York, Pa., in January, and its Elder-Beerman store in the Northwest Mall in Dayton, Ohio, which will shut down in February. York, Pa. -- The Bon-Ton Stores will celebrate the opening of its new Carson’s location on Nov. 9 at the Markland Mall in Kokomo, Ind. The store was previously located at the Kokomo Mall. Also on Nov. 9, the retailer will open a Herberger’s store at the Southdale Center in Edina, Minn., its sixth store in the Minneapolis market. The new, one-level 60,000 –sq.-ft. Target’s new small-format store in Chicago will be the first store in a U.S. historic landmark — the newly restored Carson Pirie Scott building, now known as Sullivan Center. Target also announced that its small-format locations across the U.S. including the new Chicago store, will be named CityTarget.

The Bon-Ton Stores, parent company of Boston Store and other department store chains, reported Thursday that it narrowed its second-quarter loss by 3% to $33.7 million, compared with a loss of $34.8 million the year before.Sales for the quarter dipped to $608.6 million, from $609.2 million a year ago.Same-store sales edged up 0.2%.Bon-Ton Stores operates 278 stores, including 11 furniture galleries, in 23 states. It runs stores under the Bon-Ton, Bergner’s, Boston Store, Carson Pirie Scott, Elder-Beerman, Herberger’s and Younkers nameplates and, in the Detroit area, under the Parisian nameplate.
