Marshalls, T.J. Maxx Offer In-Season Bargains

In a rare interview, TJX CEO Carol Meyrowitz explained how conventional wisdom is wrong when it comes to T.J. Maxx and Marshalls. Meyrowitz says 85 percent of what the stores sell is from the same season and same year it was designed for, and 85 percent is purchased directly from manufacturers. Much is identical to what the brands sell in department stores, she insists.

Target Website Crashes Again

Target confirmed that its website crashed for the second time in six weeks on Oct. 25, going down at approximately 12:50 p.m. EDT and then coming back up two hours later. Target.com also crashed on Sept. 13, after the retailerโ€™s online introduction of its new line of Missoni apparel and items.

Target is facing new holiday pricing pressure as Walmart announced the launch of its Christmas price guarantee. Customers who purchase eligible products at Walmart anytime between Nov. 1 and Dec. 25, and then find those same products advertised for less at another store, will receive a Walmart gift card for the difference through Dec. 25. Montreal -- A Thursday report in the Montreal Gazette said that Canadian Tire Corp. unveiled a new prototype on Wednesday in Bowmanville, Ontario, east of Toronto. The new store is 40% larger than a typical in-store automotive department and features a service area with a drive-in reception, a new auto detailing bay and a sound booth for customers to test in-car audio entertainment systems, GPS and car safety electronics. Target refinances credit agreement

New York City -- Target Corp. secured a new $2.25 billion unsecured credit facility, the retailer disclosed Friday in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Target could borrow up to as much as $500 million under the credit agreement. The agreement with Bank of American and Citibank will expire in October of 2016 unless it is extended. The current facility replaces a prior $2 billion credit agreement.
