While at NRF 2024: Retail's Big Show in New York City last week, Editor-in-Chief Joe Keenan spoke with Karen Mitchell, senior vice president and chief marketing officer of Stop & Shop, a supermarket chain, to learn more about how the business is using robotics to improve the in-store customer experience as well as create engaging touchpoints for consumers. Mitchell discusses how the in-store robot, Marty, was originally used to look for spills in store aisles, but whose responsibilities have now grown to include looking for items that may need be restocked and ensuring that product pricing is accurate. In addition, she talks about Stop & Shop's give-back initiative at NRF, where the company's partner, Badger Technologies, will donate 10 meals to its school food pantry program for every person who takes a selfie with Marty and posts it on social media. Lastly, Mitchell discusses why Badger Technologies has been the right partner for the grocer as well as Stop & Shop's plans for stores in the new year.
