The final numbers for the big holiday shopping weekend are in and the lesson learned is that consumers are shopping more from the comfort of their homes rather than venturing out to deal with in-store crowds. Black Friday was all about online sales — Adobe Systems data shows that consumers spent more than $5 billion online on Thanksgiving and Black Friday. According to the National Retail Federation, just over 99 million people shopped in stores this past holiday weekend, which is down 3 million from last year.

Additionally, an estimated 112 million consumers shopped at local stores on Small Business Saturday — a 13 percent increase from 2015. Finally, a record-breaking $3.39 billion was spent online in the U.S. on Cyber Monday. Sales were up 10 percent compared to Cyber Monday a year earlier, according to Adobe data.
