Red Wing, Minn.-based Red Wing Shoe Co. Inc. plans to open 125 stores in the next five years, according to the Star Tribune. The new stores, which all will be independently owned, will open mostly in Northeastern cities, such as Philadelphia. Red Wing, which specializes in selling work boots, has about 425 U.S. stores—70 percent of which are independently owned and operated. The push into new markets represents about a 20 percent jump in new store growth, according to the company.
