For some brands, the mall of the future already has arrived. Affordable luxury label Kate Spade earlier this week unveiled shoppable scaffolding in New Jersey's Short Hills Mall, which makes it possible for consumers to interact with and purchase items from the brand before the store even opens. By taking a short personality quiz that's spread out across four touchscreens — the results of which can be shared on social media — the shoppable construction barricades also make it possible for the brand to gain insight into shoppers’ preferences in a particular region.

Following the openings of New York-based Stuart Weitzman Inc.'s 1,600-sq.-ft. flagship at 675 Fifth Ave. in New York, as well as an 1,800-sq.-ft. flagship boutique at 701 N. Michigan Ave. in Chicago—which both debuted in October 2011 and were designed by Italian avant-garde architect Fabio Novembre—the luxury shoe retailer is planning to expand, according to www.wwd.com. Victorinox Swiss Army announced it will open five stores in 2011, the first of which opened July 1 in The Westchester in White Plains, NY. According to Joachim Beer, president of global fashion and retail for the chain, future store openings include Boston, Short Hills, N.J. and Los Angeles, all slated to open prior to year end. “We look forward to bringing the brand to these locations with this innovative new design concept,” said Beer.
