Amazon.com has announced plans to open a new fulfillment center in Spartanburg County, South Carolina. The facility will create hundreds of new full-time jobs and involve a $50 million investment in the state.

Spartanburg County Council voted unanimously Friday to offer incentives to bring mega online retailer Amazon.com to the area. Amazon would build a new facility on or along a 200-plus acre site near John Dodd Road, investing around $50 million and creating 390 jobs, according to the ordinance. Councilman David Britt, the council’s Economic Recruitment and Development Committee chairman, said the agreement includes economic incentives and a fee-in-lieu of taxes agreement from the county for the company. Spartanburg County Council passed the first and second ordinances about “Project 300” before revealing Amazon as the company during a public hearing Nov.
