Columbus, Ohio -- DSW Inc. said Tuesday that its newest store, located in the State Street shopping district of downtown Chicago, is slated to open on May 10, bringing the shoe retailer’s total downtown Chicago store count to two and 17 in Chicagoland. The new two-level store features 25,000 sq. ft. of space.

Buffalo, N.Y. -- New Era announced it will open its 10th flagship, in the heart of downtown Chicago. The two-level, 4,500-sq.-ft. store, New Era's largest location to date, will sell licensed and New Era branded headwear, apparel and accessories for men, women and kids. The brand is best known for being the official on-field cap for Major League Baseball. This is New Era's first owned and operated retail presence in the Midwest. Chicago -- Wal-Mart Stores said Monday it has launched site work for a new store in Chatham, Ill. The new superstore is expected to create 400 new jobs and open in spring 2012. According to Wal-Mart, it is one of nine new locations now planned in the Chicagoland area and is part of the retailer’s previously announced "Chicago Community Investment Partnership," a five-year plan to open several dozen stores, create approximately 10,000 jobs and 2,000 unionized construction jobs, generate more than $500 million in sales and property taxes and develop charitable partnerships worth $20 million. When Walgreens announced the deal for Drugstore.com in March, CEO Gregg Wasson said the acquisition would help advance the chain's goal of "becoming the most convenient choice for health and daily living needs whether customers shop online or in our stores." Now, it appears, the company is looking to become an even more convenient multi-channel shopping options for consumers with the announcement that it will offer online ordering with in-store pickup at 480 locations in the Chicagoland area. This comes on top of a test in the San Jose, CA market where the service is available in 27 stores.
