A few days after Amazon.com announced it was having a four-day Prime Day sale in July, major retailers, including Target and Walmart, revealed weeklong sales of their own in an effort to compete with the e-commerce giant.
Walmart's "Deals" event, spanning six days starting at midnight July 8, promises discounts on large electronics, outdoor items, watches, Christmas items, and back-to-school items. Walmart+ loyalty subscribers will get even earlier access, starting at 7 pm ET on July 7.
Target is bringing back its Circle Week July 6-12, with sales on school supplies, electronics, clothing, and more.
Total Retail's Take: Last year's Amazon Prime Day event generated $14.2 billion in online revenue for U.S. retailers — a new record, according to Adobe Analytics. With this year's Prime Day sales event lasting double the amount of days as 2024, those numbers are likely to grow for the mid-summer shopping holiday. However, if May's retail sales are any indication, that sales bump may be a blip on the radar. The summer and back-to-school selling seasons are forecast to be generally slower, especially as additional tariffs come into full effect. With that in mind, retailers such as Amazon, Walmart, and Target are looking to cash in with these not-so-special-anymore sales day events.
