Target announced Monday that customers will receive free shipping for online purchases made from Nov. 1 through Dec. 23, as the big-box retailer looks to capture holiday shoppers. The offer will not include the typical $35 order requirement for free shipping, which is the company's policy the rest of the year. In addition to free shipping, Target is implementing other programs this holiday season to win digital shoppers, including a mobile wallet function for REDcard holders, who can pay for store purchases by scanning their phones.
Total Retail's Take: Target is gearing up for the holiday season and the battle for budget-consious shoppers. With free shipping for online orders, the big-box retailer is going after Amazon.com. And with cheaper prices — nearly 1,700 products will be priced $15 or less — Target is going after its other top competitor, Wal-Mart.
“While there’s an incredible amount of change happening across retail, we’re focused on doing what’s best for our guest and leaning into what makes Target special, particularly during the holidays,” said Target CEO and Chairman Brian Cornell, in a company press release.
