Greg Scott, best known for his role as CEO of New York & Company, has been named to the chief executive position at Bonobos and Express, effective Feb. 19. PHOENIX, Express and Bonobos' parent company, said Scott will oversee all DTC operations for the two brands, including retail stores and e-commerce.
Scott served as CEO of New York & Company for 10 years and also served as chief merchandising officer of Fashion Nova. He most recently served as CEO of The Boutique Brands, whose portfolio includes e-commerce brands Discount Divas, Filly Flair, Lime Mush, and NanaMacs.
"I've always admired EXPRESS and working at this brand is a dream come true," Scott said in a LinkedIn post announcing his appointment. "I have been an avid customer for many years. At the same time, working with BONOBOS, one of the original breakout DTC brands, is an honor. Excited for the future ahead. Dreams do come true!"
Total Retail's Take: PHOENIX RETAIL is the newly formed joint venture comprising mall owners Simon Property Group, Brookfield Properties, Centennial, and brand equity and management firm WHP Global. The company acquired Express in June after the brand filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection two months prior.
With Scott's diverse background in both direct-to-consumer operations and traditional retail, it will be interesting to see what he does with Express. The brand has seen a softening in its business for several years now. As for Bonobos, which has had several owners in its short lifetime, Scott's varied experience could prove to be valuable as the brand seeks to find stability.
