Lands' End Chief Executive Federica Marchionni has stepped down, the company announced on Monday. She has been CEO since February 2015, joining the Dodgeville, Wis.-based retailer from Dolce & Gabbana USA Inc., where she was president. Joseph Boitano, chief merchandising and design officer, and James Gooch, chief operating and financial officer, have been appointed co-interim CEOs, effective immediately. In a statement, Marchionni said she and the board of directors "have agreed it is time for others to bring Lands' End into the future."
Total Retail's Take: This news doesn't come as a surprise if you follow what's been going on at Lands’ End recently. It seemed to be an odd pairing from the start — a fashion visionary brought in to turn around the fortunes of a struggling catalog brand with a much different customer base than the high fashion Dolce & Gabanna. Add in the fact that Lands’ End's results weren't improving to the board's satisfaction as well as less-than-enthusiastic support amongst her peers in Dodgeville, and it became a question of not if, but when Marchionni would be on her way out. That time has arrived.
