Dixey also likes how the tool can tune results if T&M wants to promote or demote products to override the algorithm, as well as its sophisticated algorithm to dynamically display search results based on usability.
Site Intelligence, Flexibility Yields Results
While valuable to all online retailers, site search is particularly critical to T&M, with its vast array of products with unique names. SLI Systems’ Auto Complete feature, which automatically begins offering search suggestions to users as they begin typing, has been of great benefit to visitors searching for products with hard-to-spell names. T&M also uses SLI’s synonyms functionality to broaden the vocabulary of its site without having to edit content.
T&M also leverages SLI’s merchandising capabilities to improve the shopping experience. For example, when users search for a term, the retailer sends them to a specific landing page, plus shows promotional banners that meet particular criteria (e.g., plant color, longevity).
Going forward, T&M is working with SLI Systems to introduce SLI search to three additional websites, along with implementing more of the SLI functionality such as rich auto complete, on-page merchandising, navigation optimization and conversion optimization, Dixey says.
