Deerfield, Ill. -- Walgreens said Tuesday it has introduced online ordering and in-store pickup at 70+ stores in the Indianapolis market, with some stores offering curbside delivery. The new Web Pickup service throughout the Indianapolis area is the second full market rollout for the service, which enables consumers to shop online at Walgreens.com and pick up orders at a Walgreens store in as little as an hour. DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens recently surpassed 1 million fans on Facebook, the pharmacy operator announced Friday, and also has integrated its network of more than 7,700 drug stores through mobile platforms on Facebook Places and Foursquare. Consequently, Walgreens has quickly become the chain drug store retailer with the largest following on Foursquare, while developing a growing presence on other social communities, including Twitter and YouTube. “We’ve embraced social media, and the consumer engagement we've generated shows the value of these tools for our customers and the many ways they interact with Walgreens,” Walgreens president of e-commerce Sona Chawla said.

When Walgreens announced the deal for Drugstore.com in March, CEO Gregg Wasson said the acquisition would help advance the chain's goal of "becoming the most convenient choice for health and daily living needs whether customers shop online or in our stores." Now, it appears, the company is looking to become an even more convenient multi-channel shopping options for consumers with the announcement that it will offer online ordering with in-store pickup at 480 locations in the Chicagoland area. This comes on top of a test in the San Jose, CA market where the service is available in 27 stores.
