Macy's, Rite Aid Part of First U.S. Multibrand Loyalty Program

American shoppers have never been able to earn loyalty points from one retailer and then redeem them at another. That's about to change. In May, Macy's, Rite Aid, ExxonMobil and four other brands plan to introduce the first U.S.-based loyalty program that encompasses an entire team of retailers. The program, called Plenti, will be operated by American Express. For example, a Macy's customer will be able to use Plenti points won from, say, buying a pair of shoes at one of its stores to fill up at a Mobil gas station or to pay an AT&T phone bill.

Visa Wins Costcoโ€™s Credit Card Business

Costco announced that its credit card network will be handled by Visa next year, an announcement that comes weeks after it sideswiped Visa rival American Express in a move that ended a 16-year relationship with the retailer. Costco said Citigroup would be the exclusive issuer of the retailer's co-branded credit cards, while Visa will be replacing American Express as the credit card network for Costco in the U.S. and Puerto Rico beginning April 1, 2016.

Neiman Marcus Launches its Own Mobile Wallet

Neiman Marcus and Capital One have created a mobile wallet for the luxury retailer's credit card customers who use Apple iPhones. Customers can make in-store purchases without carrying a plastic credit card. NM Mobile Wallet will work with Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman and customer cards from Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover. Neiman Marcus chose its own route vs. accepting Apple Pay. The NM Mobile wallet app actually works on more versions of the iPhone than Apple Pay, which only works on its newest iPhone 6. NM Mobile Wallet requires that phones operate with at least version iOS 7.
