On Tuesday, Sears told employees that it will be closing 30 Kmart and Sears stores in early 2017. Most of the stores will start liquidation sales on January 6 and then officially go out of business between late March and mid-April. Click here to see a full list of the Kmart and Sears locations that will be closing.
Total Retail’s Take: This latest round of store closures will bring the total number of stores that the company has closed to over 200 in the fiscal year. By early 2017, Sears will have less than 1,500 stores left — down nearly 60 percent from five years ago. Sales have been decreasing at both Sears and Kmart for quite some time now, so the company is trying to cut it losses by closing these locations.
